SOPHOMORE SURVIVAL SKILLS CAMP

Program Details

Date: COMING SOON

Cost: $250 (Lunch Included)

Time 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

As rising sophomores transition into the Prep after their first year, they now embark on a very rigorous sophomore year. A student must have the skills to do well. This course will spend two of the four days on study and test-taking skills and classroom approaches. The other two days will focus on particular courses for the sophomore year. There will be preparation lessons for Chemistry, American Literature, and Math (Geometry or Algebra II). The goal of these lessons is to get a head start on important topics for these courses. The lessons will focus on methods for approaching these particular subjects and on reviews of some past lessons that might be important for the upcoming course.

Course Objectives:

1) Chemistry Prep – Mrs. McHugh will teach the students how to be prepared to tackle the rigors of this course, and the students will leave with a preparation packet

2) Math Prep – (either geometry or Algebra II) The students will spend time prepping for the math course that they will be taking during their sophomore year

3) Literary Analysis Prep – This is a huge part of the sophomore American Literature course, and most students need to develop the needed literary skills to be successful

After a student completes his freshman year, he has a better understanding of his academic weaknesses. Now, is the time to find the techniques and skills to overcome those weaknesses. This camp will help students understand the methods and effort needed to be successful academically at the Prep and in college.

Space is limited, so please reserve a spot soon.

Student Testimonials

β€œSophomore year was always said to be the most academically rigorous year. As a rising Junior now, I know just how tough the year can be. The Sophomore Survival Camp was a valuable experience which helped in my personal preparation for the year: developing new strategies to tackle familiar subjects such as literature and math, and an introduction to the unfamiliar Chemistry course. I found myself able to use the approaches learned in these three core subjects in every subject as well so Sophomore year didn’t seem so intimidating after all. It’s an experience I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to get ahead for the next year or simply knock off the Summer cobwebs.”
